Research Institute of Chinese Ethnicity and Culture (RICEC) Collection

Introduction

The origin of the RICEC was brought to light from the beginning of "Johor Teo Chew History Documentation Project" in 2001. This project was initiated by Professor Tay Liang Soo (1940-2016), and Professor Onn Huann Jan who was serving as the Executive Director then. In 2003, the center was established by Professor Tay Lian Soo after his retirement as a professor in The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and eventually he was appointed as the first Director of RICEC in May 2003.

Since its establishment, RICEC has been dedicating to the work of collecting publications of Chinese clan associations, genealogies, and other historical documentations relevant to the Chinese community. To facilitate various academic research activities, the institute continuously keeps its effort in collecting and preserving materials related to the history of Chinese community in Malaysia (such as Chinese regional and kinship ties) and Chinese culture (including the development of Chinese education and commerce in Malaysia), aiming to provide rich academic resources and research information for the faculty and students of Southern University College, as well as external researchers.

Borrowing Privileges

* Review of loan item restrictions will be held every half year to make necessary adjustments.

Closed Stack Item Request Service

1. Lecturers, staff, students and external members with Southern University College ID cards may apply for Closed Stack Item Request Service.

2. Request form is available at the Library counter or can be downloaded from here.

3. Users need to fill up the request form and submit it to the Library circulation counter. The requested item(s) can be collected at the counter at the stated time.

5. For users who borrow any items from the Library, they need to leave their Southern University College ID cards as deposits. The cards are claimable after they return the borrowed item.

6. The item must be returned 30 minutes before the closing time of the Library.

华人族群与文化研究所文库

华人族群与文化研究所文库（The Research Institute of Chinese Ethnicity and Culture，简称 “RICEC”）馆藏的起源可以追溯到2001年“搜集柔佛潮人史料合作计划”的启动。该计划由当时任教于香港中文大学的郑良树教授（1940-2016）策划，安焕然讲师则担任执行主任。2003年，中心升格为华人族群与文化研究所，郑良树教授也在同年荣休后从香港返南，担任RICEC所长。

自成立以来，RICEC致力于收藏会馆刊物、族谱、等华族史料。为策动各项学术研究，本馆持续收集、保存与华族相关历史（如：地域、血缘等）及华族文化相关（教育、商业等）资料，旨在为南方大学学院的师生以及院外的研究人员提供丰富的学术资源和研究信息。

RICEC馆藏调阅方法

1. 凡本校教职员持教职员证，学生持学生证，校外读者持校外会员证可申请本服务。

2. 申请者可向图书馆总馆一楼流通柜台索取或从图书馆网页下载调阅 表格。

3. 填妥调阅表格交还流通柜台人员，并请于指定时间至流通柜台取书。

5. 取典藏馆藏时须押学生证、教职员证，归还图书资料时取回证件。

6. 调阅的图书资料必须在当日闭馆前半小时归还。
